Blog Tip: More and Excerpt

By decourlande | Oct 22, 2008

When writing a post, you may wish for the excerpt, or description to break your text in a particular location. If you are using a magazine layout like the one on this blog, the only part of your post that is going to show initially, is the excerpt. You can insert an html tag, like so,

<!--more-->

to create a break. Search engines may also use the excerpted content as a description.

If you are using Wordpress, you can copy and paste a portion of your post into the Excerpt section below. The Excerpt is especially handy if you don’t want the lead sentence to be a part of the excerpt.

    That’s handy, and certainly saves space. Some of my posts are longer than I intend, and then the page is huge.

    I like the look here!
